The ImproLANDS project is making a significant impact in Italy by giving visibility to the earthquake-affected inland areas of the Marche Region where communities are still healing from the devastation of 2016.
In 14th april 2024 two workshops took place simultaneously in Caldarola with the Civil Protection Corps and in Pieca with the amateur theatre troupes of Artisti Filodrammatica Pian di Pieca and Artisti Filodrammatica Ripe San Ginesio.
The workshops they engaged in were designed to enhance essential skills like stress management, effective communication, and emotional resilience, all through the lens of improvisational theatre. Hence, the labs went beyond mere artistic expression and offered participants a safe and accepting space to process emotions, cultivate perseverance and adaptability, and find strength in each other.
By taking part in the labs and using improv techniques, the volunteers of the Civil Protection Corps had the chance to reflect on their own experiences in disaster response, open up about their trauma, and rediscover the power of human connection – essential tools for both their personal and professional lives. Despite their extensive field experience, the creative exercises proved especially important as many had not previously attended any psychological training.
