During the month June, the talented artists from Las Cosas Que Hacemos threw themselves headlong into a fruitful round of meetings with local communities in the small towns of Miguel Ibáñez, Muñopedro, and Cillán, located in the Segovian countryside.
Through active listening, they had the chance to discover what residents’ daily life looks like in remote places suffering abandonment in Spain. By introducing them to basic improv techniques, they created engaging spaces for two-way conversation and understanding.
Critically, the Segovian inland has been chosen as the set of ImproLANDS’ artistic interventions as, during the first six months of the Covid-19 pandemic, it hosted some of the project’s artists who were stranded while on tour without being able to return home. In the course of their stay, they turned their initial isolation into a creative co-habitation by crafting an online improv homour programme. Drawing on this positive experience, involved artists are, thus, committed to revitalising the social fabric of target lands through theatre improv activities.
