As a goal-driven project intended to enhance the quality of artistic interventions in the context of territorial disparities and reinforce social inclusion and well-being, ImproLANDS combines a variety of innovative elements at play at different levels.

To begin with, by bringing together international improv artists and hosting communities living in remote areas, the project stratifies three experimental dimensions:

  1. it takes place in different spaces;
  2. artists employ an array of improv techniques;
  3. local activities involve various types of groups and local contexts.

The improv labs are a crucial part of the ImproLANDS’ ‘learning by doing’ process involving the local communities.

Along with the participatory video, they constitute a powerful way to integrate the locals’ inputs, stories, and points of view into artistic practices and outputs.

Organised by each partner organisation at the local level, they are meant to activate the resources of the individuals and the relationships within the group, encouraging existing abilities to emerge, creating conditions for resilience learning and positive change as the participants take ownership of themselves.

The partners plan to carry out a total of 24 improv theatre laboratories (6 improv labs in each country) engaging local and neighbouring communities.

Let’s deep dive into some of the collaborative actions already implemented in partner countries since the start of the project…
