Accademia56 is a Performing Arts Training Centre in Ancona, founded in 2016 by Teatro Terra di Nessuno (TTDN) to train young actors. More than just a school, it serves as a collaborative space for professionals to address the lack of a true performing arts academy in the Marche Region. Accademia56 offers high-quality training through courses, workshops, and seminars led by renowned local, national, and international instructors. It also functions as a centre for theatrical and cinematographic productions, event organisation, and scenography. All courses are co-organised with TTDN, home to the National School of Improvisation Theatre, ensuring a professional standard in line with European Qualification Framework (EQF) criteria.

Shoshin Theatre Association | Romania
Established 8 years ago, Shoshin Theatre Association derives its name from the Zen Buddhist concept of ‘beginner’s mind,’ embracing a humble, open approach even when working at advanced levels. Shoshin focuses on enhancing personal and social well-being through physical, devised, and participatory theatre, particularly in rural areas.
Over the years, it has cooperated with notable artists and groups like Milos Kecman, Odin Teatret, and Teatro Tascabile di Bergamo. Shoshin has been involved in several European projects, including the RIOTE3 project under Erasmus+, where it produced innovative outputs for adult education in rural settings. One of these, consisted of a performance co-created with locals in Mera, based on community myths and stories, thus exemplifying its commitment to blending art with local culture. As a partner in the SPARSE and SPARSE+ projects, funded by Creative Europe, the association developed three toolkits on organising cultural activities in rural areas, overcoming challenges like remoteness and language barriers through physical theatre. Its team also authored the SPARSE project’s final evaluation report, which assessed the impact on communities, artists, and audiences throught the project duration.

Throwback to our unforgettable Spanish Residency! 🌍✨
In the heart of #Coca, nestled in the Segovian countryside, we brought improvisation to life in ways that transcended mere performance.
Our final show took place in Coca`s stunning theatre, after a day exploring the iconic Coca Castle 🏰 and chatting with locals about their lives and stories. The improvisers used the same framework developed in Italy, adapting it to the unique essence of Coca’s intergenerational audience.
The result? A performance where adults and children joined on stage, creating spontaneous moments of joy and surprise that resonated with everyone. 🎭
But the magic didn’t end there. After the show, a real conversation unfolded. Villagers opened up about the challenges of #depopulation, #unemployment, and how modern divides—digital, generational, and social—impact family bonds. Grandparents reflected on evolving relationships, while the community collectively discussed the need for social justice and governmental accountability.
What did we learn? #Improvisation isn’t just theatre; it’s a powerful tool for opening doors to new perspectives, fostering connection, and creating spaces where people can laugh, reflect, and claim their voices. 💬💡

🌟 Spotlight on Resilience in the Heart of the Marche Region 🌟
As part of the #ImproLANDS project, we had the privilege of speaking with Giampiero Feliciotti, President of the Unione Montana dei Monti Azzurri, a passionate advocate for culture and community in the #inlandareas of the Marche region, in Central Italy. His pivotal role in fostering collaborations between local associations, partnerships, and initiatives was instrumental in the success of the project’s Italian residency held in June 2024. This remarkable event was made possible thanks to the united efforts of the municipalities of #Caldarola, #Camporotondo, #BelforteDelChienti, #Serrapetrona, and #Cessapalombo. 🤝
In our conversation, we delved into the transformative power of #culture in the ongoing recovery of these areas, particularly following the devastating 2016 #earthquake. The tragedy left behind not only physical destruction but also a profound sense of uncertainty and loss. 🌍
What resonated most strongly was a shared understanding: rebuilding isn’t just about restoring structures —it’s also about rekindling the human spirit, fostering hope, and creating opportunities for #participation and #inclusion. #Reconstruction isn’t just about buildings—, it is also nurturing a sense of belonging and #resilience among the people who call this region home. 🌱
ImproLANDS is proud to contribute to this journey, harnessing the power of #art and culture to heal, connect, and inspire brighter and more resilient futures. 💪✨
🌟A heartfelt thank you to President @feliciotti.giampiero for his unwavering support and vision, and to @paolostrologomedia (and @studio_8zero) for capturing this enriching interview.

✨Transnational residency in Romania: a warm thank you to the local communities✨
🎭 The #ImproLANDS transnational residency in #Romania concluded last Sunday, with our international team returning to their respective countries. This residency was an enriching experience thanks to the warm hospitality of the #Magyarbikal (Bicalatu) and #Kalotaszentkirály communities, who welcomed us wholeheartedly and took part in our lab activities and show despite the winter chill.
👥We are deeply grateful to the community members who joined us, bringing energy and openness to our activities. Their participation and support made us feel at home, adding depth to our shared experiences. Special thanks go to the Kudor family, who contributed tirelessly to the organisation.
⭐ On Saturday, we held the residency`s final event, where the community gathered with us to exchange ideas on the theme that has traveled with the improvisers from our Italian residency: “the past, the present, and the future.” Together, we discussed the community’s needs and hopes for the future. Improvisers performed scenes inspired by village life, nature, animals, the bustling Huedin market, and traditional dances they learned. It was a beautiful culmination of the week, celebrating the shared stories and aspirations of the community.
👩🏽💻Also, Friday and Saturday mornings were dedicated to our mid-term project meeting. @Accademia56 presented the project’s progress and indicators. A separate meeting with project managers focused on the upcoming reporting period and future activities.
🙌🏼 Special thanks to @feryjzz , @DimitraZacharouli, @manu.delsavio , and @bilibokapollonia for their collaboration, and to the @shoshin.theatre team for their dedication and commitment to making this residency a success.

In Europe’s forgotten corners, #ImproLANDS re-establishes connection, enabling communities and artists to forge bonds through spontaneous creation.
🌍 Our transnational residency in #Romania began with a warm welcome in #ClujNapoca from @shoshin.theatre , before we transitioned to the charming village of #Kalotaszentkirály. This Hungarian-based community has been the ideal setting for deep creative work and community bonding.
The welcoming #SzentkirályPension and surrounding nature have given us a cozy space to focus and connect 🌲, while delicious breakfasts at #Muskátli Pension ☕ introduced us to local flavors and fostered camaraderie.
tasting
On Tuesday, we explored #Huedin’s market 🍅, interacting with local producers and tasting the vibrant local culture. Lunches with Iren Kudor offered even more immersion, as she shared the region’s culinary traditions.
🎭 The initial #ImprovLabs created space for artists to connect and prepare for their community work. Welcoming new members like #KaterinaBekou from SMouTH and #GabrielaChiriac from Accademia56 has enriched our group dynamics.
👥 Meeting community members, including local producers specializing in cheese, bread, kefir, and halloumi, highlighted the area’s craftsmanship traditions. One key exchange was with Misi, the village priest 🗣️, whose support has bridged the project with local culture and histories.
So far, this residency has fostered meaningful exchanges and growth in this inspiring Romanian setting.

✨ In September, the village of #Magyarbikal / #Bicalatu, #Romania, once again opened its doors to the #ImproLANDS project for a second Impro Lab session! ✨
🎭This time, we deepened the work begun in July, using improvisational theatre. With each session, participants became more comfortable sharing their stories and co-creating performances that reflected their shared stories, songs, hopes, and dreams.
💬This Lab built upon earlier exercises with a special focus on #storytelling tools, encouraging locals to weave their own narratives into the theatre pieces. Guided by international artists, these personal stories were brought to life on stage, allowing participants to reflect on their individuality, common experiences in the village, and connections with the surrounding communities. 🌍
🎬 As the lab progressed, we witnessed participants breaking down more barriers and finding joy in creative collaboration. For many, it was their first experience with #ImprovisationTheatre, but it won’t be their last!
in
💡As a follow-up, the team is now back in Bikal for the final international co-creation residency of the ImproLANDS project, taking place from the 4th to the 10th of November. This is a unique opportunity for even deeper artistic exchanges, bringing together international artists from across Europe and local participants for one last creative chapter 🎭.

A Special Memory from the Artistic Residency in the Marche Region, Italy:
🎶✨ In the picturesque hills of #Serrapetrona, nestled in the earthquake-affected hinterland of the Marche region, the @Azienda Agricola di Maggi & Vecchioni became the vibrant setting for a truly special gathering. International Improv theatre artists enjoyed a night filled with the lively rhythms of #Saltarello, the iconic folk music of Marche. 🌿🎭
The #artists, along with local stakeholders and #community members, shared traditional dishes and immersed themselves in the region`s rich culture. With the magical songs and improvised music from @GrazieGrazià —the greatest Saltarello pranksters—the night forged a deep connection between #ImprovisedTheatre and the area’s musical traditions. The fast-paced Saltarello brought everyone together, symbolizing the #resilience and joy of local communities still rebuilding after the# earthquakes.

🍷🧀 From delicious local produce to spontaneous dancing, this night was a testament to the power of creativity, tradition, and community. Moments like these truly showcase the beauty of Marche and the potential of similar projects🌟

✨ The journey of #ImproLANDS in #Greece✨
🌍On September 2nd, our project partner @synergyofmusictheatre (SMouTh) connected with the newly established #KeramidiFloodVictimsAssociation, marking the first encounter with the residents of #Keramidi in the Trikala region. The village streets, still bearing the visible scars of a devastating #flood, hosted the first ImproLANDS workshop. People of all ages came together, eager to share their experiences and engage with their neighbors through the power of improvisation.
👥Following this, villagers were invited to another ImproLANDS workshop during the Mill of Performing Arts Festival, co-organized by SMouTh and the Municipality of Larissa’s Department of Culture for the 11th consecutive year. Held at the historic Pappas Mill on September 24th, participants from Keramidi, Farkadona, Larissa, and surrounding areas gathered to continue their creative journey, discovering how #art can empower and unite #communities.
🎭 #Play, #improvisation, #humour, and #stories infused these two sessions, making them memorable and impactful for the SMouTh team and all participants, as we look forward to future meetings with these inspiring communities.
⏩ Coming up next: ImproLANDS’ final event will take place in September 2025 in the context of the Mill of Performing Arts Festival and we look forward to it!

✨ In July, the village of Magyarbikal/Bicălatu, #Romania, experienced its first Lab as part of the #ImproLANDS project! ✨
🌍 In the heart of Cluj county lies Magyarbikal, a small, isolated village, part of Huedin city hall, where access to #culture has been scarce for generations. A small Hungarian community, part of Kalotaszeg area, that often finds itself disconnected not only from larger cultural hubs, but also from each other. This lack of connection gave the title for the Labs: "The hill that connects us". A while ago the surrounding small communities were connected by hills with a short walking distance between them. Now the network of roads and the degradation of them feeds this feeling of isolation and disconnection of the communities. Opportunities for creative expression and shared cultural experiences are few and far from these places, leaving a vacuum that ImproLANDS is aimed to fill.
🎭In this context, the ImproLANDS project brought together these communities through the art of #Improvisational Theatre. The labs are aimed to offer a sense of belonging to the inhabitants of the village and the surrounding communities, and to offer them creativity and playfulness through Impro-theatre, in order to find new ways to connect with each other.
💬Using simple, universal theatre games, participants of all ages had the chance to come together, laugh, and share their stories. These stories—about life in Bikal, their challenges, and shared experiences—became the foundation for a series of dynamic, unscripted performances.
💡This first Lab didn’t just introduce the locals to improv theatre, but also to connect to each other in a new light. As one local said, “For the first time, we saw our neighbours not just as people from the other side of the village, but as fellow storytellers.”
We’re so proud of this first experience with the community of Bikal, realized by and thanks to the amazing team of artists from @spiritwoart and locals, with the coordination of @shoshin.theatre! Stay tuned, because it’s just the beginning of more cultural engagement to come🌱.
